Slab is poured on our renovation

When the slab is poured you can start to see the area you have to work with. The form of the footprint starts to take shape. During this time decisions about concrete can be made. If you want to add a feature to the concrete like stones or a colour this is an opportune time to discuss this with your builder. Be prepared for some variation in the concrete costs depending on the depth required of your structure.

Once the slab is down and dry which usually takes a few weeks then the framing can start. The frame can be steel or timber depending on what the builder is comfortable with and what your architect has specified. In our case, we have both. The steel is concentrated around the void spaces and the door frames giving extra strength and strong lines which form part of the design. Once the first level is framed up the roofing structure can be put in place for the first floor and then it can be framed!

Next post: first floor!
